Featured Artist: VanFleetStreetDesign!

Yep, that's me! aka Brett Ward! I decided to give myself a little feature this week. I am going to try to feature a piece of my work each week hoping I get inspired to create newer pieces.
So, here we go...the first piece is titled,

Outside My Window I Watch the Great Lotus Flower Bloom ACEO...Original

This piece was inspired by my love of Buddhism. Most often I don't have an image in mind to put on paper or canvas, it just happens. The paper or canvas tells me what it wants to be and it just works out. That's what occurred with this piece. I was playing around with color, dragging the brush across the paper, adding things here and there, rather haphazardly and wound up with this. It wasn't until much later that I added the windows from a photograph I took in Philly when visiting my mother.

I have to say that this is one of my favorite mixed media pieces of mine. I love the bold colors and the flower turned out perfectly! The added windows is indicative of years of introspection I endured. The fence represents the still barriers to overcome, while the lotus flower blossoms and just is.

This piece and many others can be found for sale in my etsy.com shop. Please use the link to the right to visit my shop!

In case you're wondering, an ACEO is an acronym for “Art Cards, Editions and Originals”... also known as ATC's or “Artist Trading Cards”. There is a growing group of accomplished artists creating these highly collectible, mini works of art. They are all 2.5 x 3.5 inches. Their small size makes them extremely affordable. These cards are sold as Originals or Editions that are prints of the original. Editions are numbered and signed. ACEO's can be made of anything you desire but must meet the standard measurement of 2.5 inches x 3.5 inches.

What do you think about this piece? How does it move you? Or does it move you at all?
Does this piece invite you to look at more of my work? Let me know in the comments section of this blog! Don't be shy, I welcome all constructive criticism!
